Live in the state of Georgia. I'm not married and when my child was both, my then boyfriend was there and I put gave my child his last name on the birth certificate. I think it would have been wiser to give my child my last name since we were not married and the then boyfriend has never legitimized my child. How do I go about changing my child's name to my last name?

You need to go to court to legally change the name. However, you can use any name you want as long as there is no intent to defraud. So if you want to use your name for school or other such purposes you can. But if asked for the legal name you have to provide, just explain whay you prefer to use your name.
