The plastic shut-off valve that supplies water to my ice maker will not shut off. And there is no extra PVC pipe to cut off and install a new one. What can I do to fix this? I saw the remedy on this site to take the bonnet off and tighten the packing nut, but what if this cannot be done?

Thanks!

By not shutting off, are you referring to dripping, or not shutting the supply off to the fridge.

If you are talking about dripping, then you can probably snug the packing nut down.

If you are talking about not shutting off the supply to the fridge, then the easiest fix will be to install a 2nd valve in the tubing that feeds the fridge. Just go the building supply, or hardware and get a 1/4"od tubing valve.

All you do is cut the tubing and put shove the tubing into the quick connect fittings. Make sure you get them shoved all of the way in, or they may blow out at some point, unexpectedly.

Make sure you shut off the water to the house, before you cut the tubing, or you could have a real mess.
