h is approaching 0 lim (x+h)^2-x^2/h I just need help getting to the next step. I am stumped.

This is the definition of a derivative. Look at it. The derivative of x^2 is your limit.
But if you must derive it, expand out and let h approach 0.
It is rather straightforward.
Please use proper grouping symbols. I know you mean \lim_{h\to 0}\frac{(x+h)^{2}-x^{2}}{h}
The way you have it written it is \lim_{h\to 0}(x+h)^{2}-\frac{x^{2}}{h}
