View Full Version : Yellow bath water with red brick dust type particles!

We don't use the bath very often (tend to shower more) but recently ran a bath.

The water is coming out yellow coloured and has small particles of what looks like red brick dust. We've run the bath for up to an hour at a time, and it isn't improving.

Anyone had the same or know what it might be? The sinks around the house, toilet, shower, etc, are all fine - it only happens in the bath. I'm worried it might be a rusty pipe that is slowly going to rust away!!

Thanks

How old is your house and what material are the pipes made of? Copper? Galvanized or plastic? Regards, Tom

Hi Tom. House was built circa 1950. Copper pipes as far as we know. Colouring/debris coming through on both hot and cold!

Hey Jane,
My bad! I should have asked. Are you on a well or city water?

No worry! We're on city water. Neighbours don't seem to be having a problem.

Take a knife and scrape a water pipe down to bare metal. Is it silver colored or copper colored? Back in the 50's we piped with galvanized. We didn't start with copper until the 60's in my area. My place, built in 1954 is piped galvanized. Let me know what you find. Cheers, Tom
