We have a three month old male kitten very swwet and active. Well this morning my husband found he had poo'd on the bathroom rug and then this morning while I was going to the bathroom he pee'd right on the rug right in front of me. I want to know why this is and also three other times he has pee'd out side the box. ONe was the other night like two nights ago he pee'd on the bed sitting right next to me, the two other times it was while I was making the bed and he got under the covers and the other time when I was spreading a blanket out to fold. He also used to poo in our spear bedroom in all four corners but I put stuff in the corners and now he doesn't poo in there. So I am really curious as to why he pee's every now and then outside of the box. He does use his box and its covered and its not a different litter so what the heck is going on? And does rubbing his face in it really do anything?

1. He's not a dog, so no, don't rub his face in it
2. you said he knows how to use the litter box, well make sure you scoop it at least once a day, twice preferably. Cats are extremely clean animals, so if their pooper isn't clean, they will find a spot that is. Believe me.

I clean it out right after he goes

Well he is still a kitten, maybe he tinkles when he gets excited
You could try picking up the poo and the cat at the same time and depositing both in the litter box, while saying something to the effect of 'this is where it goes'
Cats aren't dumb, eventually he will get the drift
However, if you haven't taken him to the vet, you should. There they can answer all your questions regarding kitten potty problems, and the possibility of getting him spayed. Definitely look into the spaying though, because unless you want to breed him, cat pee is the last thing you'll be worried about once he starts spraying- now that is gross hun
Consult the vet and best of luck

It is rather unusual for a cat to go outside the box, if they ever got used to doing so.

I clean our litter box only once, every night.

I wonder if you removing the cat's "familiar evidence" so quickly does not allow the scent to remain enough for it to "find" it's proper place the next time?

Just a quick story about our cat.

We went on a three day trip last year.

We thought of taking her to a kennel, but the thought of her being in a cage, in a strange environment, with the possibility she could catch some disease or infection, was too much to bare.

We bought a big feeder, a big waterer, and an extra litter box. We were confident that she would have plenty of food and water for the three days, and would be much more comfortable in her own surroundings with familiar smells. Yeah, I hate that she had to be alone for those three days, but this was the best option as far as we could decide.

When we returned, I was shocked to find that she had done her number one jobs in one litter box, and her number two jobs in the other. She had not mixed the two a single time.

Just to emphasize HighandDryinnNy's comment about how clean they are.

I may try two litter boxes then and see if that makes a difference cause like I said he only poo'd in that one room and I think it was to mark his territory. I am just worried about the peeing on our bed and stuff. We live in an apartment and its not really covenant to wash our bedding at 10 o'clock at night. Thanks for the advice.
