About a year ago, I began having a change in bowel movements. I was going any more often, my stools were just looser, softer, and not very formed. My bowel movements have always gotten this way just before and during my montly periods and did that month as well, but they never went back to normal after I had my period that month. I consulted a nurse friend and she said that all of my symptoms (abdominal cramping that was relieved with a bowel movement, small amount of mucus in stool occasionally, combined with the above mentioned symptoms) sounded like a case of IBS and suggested that I take a fiber supplement. I was also under a lot of stress due to trying to plan my wedding and had some family issues at the same time as well. I went to my dr and had blood work done, had to send in a stool sample, and had a CT scan done (CT was for something else but was done on my pelvis and my colon was looked at) and everything came back OK. My dr. said that if symptoms persisted to see a GI doctor (which I have not yet done because things seemed to be getting better until now, I guess its time to get that done!). Anyway, I began taking a fiber supplement and things improved within a couple of days. As long as I took it faithfully twice a day everything seemed to be rocking and rolling along, but if a missed a dose or two things went back to not so good. I had also began taking pre-natal vitamins a month or so prior to the symptoms coming on as well as we are trying to get pregnant. Well, about a month ago, things went back to not so good when I missed a couple of doses of fiber and when I started taking it faithfully again things didn't go back to normal. I have noticed off and on for a couple of months now little sesame seed or rice looking things in my stools and my stools are fairly soft, mostly formed but fairly soft and not as "big" (length and gerth) as usual. Most times it comes out in little one to two inch long pieces and are about as big around as an average thumb, sometimes a little bigger round (TMI I'm sure but I don't know how else to fully explain!). They also seem to be very heavy and immediately sink to the bottom of the toilet rather than floating. I'm wondering if this could be a parasite type of thing or if it is something more serious that I need to be concerned about. Any advice and/or ideas are appreciated!! :-)
