You typically get a F1 prompt when the BIOS has detected a hardware or other settings change and the prompt includes a message indicating what changed. For this scenario, investigate CMOS backup battery replacement; although if you're running Vista, the computer is probably not old enough for this to be an issue. Some BIOSs also have an option to always display an F1 prompt. In this case, enter the BIOS setup and look for such a setting.

Did you upgrade an older computer to Vista or is this a newer computer? Scleros may still be right, even if it is new, perhaps the CMOS battery in the computer is depleted and needs replacing. Without a good CMOS battery, the BIOS can't remember anything and has to come up each time you boot to verify the settings it detected during the POST.
