My son had surgery and was given a script of 50 tablets... I was mostly in control of them he was taking 4 per day he has 17 left. So I'm sure he did not take more than prescribed.
He took them for about the first 6 days... he says he has very little pain... but he has these huge temper outburst (now he has never been an angel) but never like he has acted in the last 2 days... could he be having withdrawals?

Irritability could be a symptom of codeine withdrawal. But it could also be symptoms of... pain or the fact that he's relatively confined to recovery.

The best thing to do is to call the doctor, and get a plan to slowly taper off. I was taking vicodin after my surgery and I had to go from 3 vic to 2... to 1.

He's been on it for a week, so it shouldn't be too difficult to take him off it slowly.

I suggest consulting a doctor and trying to figure out the next best plan.

Thing is Is he has been off them for a few days now... his surgeon is out of town and we saw a partner today... not the most concerned guy... so I think I'll call his pediatircan.

My husband was a Doctor of Pharmacy and I have all his books - so I'm a layperson reading up on this stuff BUT

I read that addiction can take as little as one week at two a day; irritability can be a side effect within a week. I don't know about temper outbursts but it does say "irritability." It says it can impair your judgment - maybe about what is important enough to rage about and what is not - and cloud your judgment.

I don't know if I've helped at all but I find nothing about temper outbursts.

Well he has been confined and both arguments was about him going out... maybe he is stir crazy... he is normally very active and plays ball almost everyday.
How do you ground a injured child but I punished him by taking some things away... didn't know what else to do I was in shock!
