Hi,
Please let me know how much tax (in %) is deducted on OPT.
Iam an International student and doing a job on OPT.My Employer is deducting Taxes more than required as he also doesn't know the exact amount to be deducted. And also how many exceptions I should seek.
Iam single, bearing all my expenses.Right now Iam deducting two federal and one state tax.Is that OK?If not how much it should be?
Thanking you in anticipation,
Hareesh

Everyone on F1 or OPT is exempt from Social Security and Medicare taxes for 5-years.
On your W4, you should have two federal allowances. Read Your U.S. Tax Return: U.S. Tax Filing Requirements for Non-Residents (http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/03/us-tax-filing-requirements-for-non.html)

Hareesh:

The EXACT percentage withheld depends on your annual salary and the nukbers you claim on the W-4, plus HOW you are paid (weekly, b-weekly, semi-monthly, monthly).
