Will freon leak out of a refrigerator that does not have anything in it? I have a standup beverage cooler, such as you would see in a convenience store where you reach in and grab a water or soda. I was told it was serviced 8 months ago and it now appears to be out of freon. It does not chill or cool inside, but warms the air instead so when you reach in it is warm, not cool. I was told it was because it is empty, and if I put something inside it would cool. Is this correct?
It has been running while empty for about six weeks.

Thank you,
Erich

Mirbatman - In answer to the first question ( yes - freeon can leak from the cooler unit while it is running and (IT DOES NOT MATTER IF IT HAS SOMETHING INSIDE IT OR NOT)
I think that someone is Pulling your leg. Id almost bet that the person that told you that is where you got the cooler at and he don't want to be responsible for having it serviced,
If I were you I would Tell him that it probably had a leak in the system when he had it serviced before. Give him a chanch to do right and then if he don't ,then give a refrigtion person a chance to correct your problem , He will find it out of freeon ::: GOOD LUCK & GOD BLESS:: FG.B.E.

Mir batman - IT could also be the thermostate. They work the same way that your refridgrator or freezer or air cond. GOD BLESS ::: F.B.E.
