Hi, The water backed up and we used a plunger thinking the drain was plugged up. It drained, but shortly water started to leak from the down stairs ceiling. The drain is plastic in a 20 year old house. I have been told that a rubber coupling was blown apart when we used the plunger. I was shocked to hear that there is a rubber coupling that would not withstand the low pressure applied by the plunger. Could I have ruptured a plastic pipe of blown apart a bad joint? How do I proceed to find out what the problem is? I guess cut out the ceiling below the shower?

Hey Carlos,
It's doubtful that you ruptured the rubber seal under the drain. Yes, you're going to hafta open up, that ceiling and see exactly what's leaking and from where. When you find out let me know and we'll fix what's wrong. Good luck, Tom

Thanks. That was what I was afraid of.
