My son is doing a rent to own auto and is 2 months behind. The place he's renting it from called and said they were coming to reposs the auto my question is do they have to have a court order to reposs the auto or can they just come and get it, I was told the gentelman who own this business has a very shady background and will do things that are not legal and he gets away with it so before my son turns over the auto I want to make sure its done right

I live in Louisiana and my son has a rent to own auto I would like to know if its true that the car dealer who is renting him the auto is the one responsible for carring the auto insurance I was told by a friend who is renting a auto also does not pay the insurance and it's a state law the dealer who my son is renting from told him he has to carry the insurance and not to tell the insurance company he is doing a rent to own to just say he's buying the car

Depending on the State and the contract - which I am sure says they can just come and get it - there is no need to give notice. Your son can save himself some time and money (because they very well may sue him for any expenses out of pocked) by taking it to them and turning it in.

Take photos inside and outside so there can be no claim of damage.

As far as insurance - what does the contract say? If it's a lease the person leasing the vehicle has responsibility for keeping the vehicle insured, not the person who actually owns the vehicle.
