I had a front crown crack and had to go to a new dentist as mine was away and they did a replacement crown. During the procedure for the impression I felt that my mouth was overpacked and the gums and adjacent tooth became somewhat bruised and discoloured. When the replacement crown arrived it was terrible... wrong colour, too bulbous in shape and longer and higher up in the gum than the original crown. I expressed some reluctance and then lived with it for a week or so and returned to restate my concerns. The dentist said they would send me to to the lab. I went there they said I would need a second impression and then they would remake the crown. Since that time my dentist has returned. I require a crown on the adjacent tooth that was discoloured. Now, I am very nervous about returning to the new dentist due to the errors in the first impression. I phoned the office and asked if they would reverse the charges for the botched crown and have my old dentist do the work. They refused and said they had done nothing wrong. They said that when it is cemented in your mouth that is the end of things and they are willing to do the replacement work but not work in tandem with my dentist to have it redone. I do not trust them and I wonder why they are being so difficult about the situation. Obviously it was botched but they will accept no responsibility for this. What is your opinion>

I'd suggest giving this dentist a chance to rectify the situation. Let him take the impression but go to the lab to choose the shade of the crown. Ideally you should be in natural light to pick the shade, so if it's a clear day, go outside to get the best colour match. You can ask them to send it back to the dentist before they put the final glaze on it so you can make sure the size, shape and colour are what you want. When you are happy with it they will finish it and you can have it permanently cemented.

When you had the first one done, the dentist should have handed you a mirror BEFORE he cemented it to be sure you were happy with it.

The lab sounds like they are going to remake the crown at no charge. The dentist should not be charging you either.

Good luck.
