Lately, I have had trouble sleeping. I lay awake for hours, thinking about all kinds of random things. Eventually, I do fall asleep, but my dreams are always terrible. I usually don't remember much of them, but I do remember that there are always full of emotions. Most of the time, they are things like hate, anger, and murderous rage. But sometimes they have fear, depression, and confusion in them. I usually wake up around 3 in the morning after these dreams, and when I wake up, my body is often twisted in pain. My muscles are tensed up and my head is twisted to extreme angles that leave my neck sore throughout the whole day. Only rarely can I get back to sleep after this, and when I can , it isn't for very long. Sometimes , other things wake me up, like my cat biting me for no apparent reason, or my brother wanting to take the mat that I was sleeping on.
Can anyone think of any reasons for these things happening or any way to fix them?

You have to have plenty of exercise during the day, for one thing. Also, you have to express your emotions on a daily basis to a trusted friend in order to get them out in the open.

If you aren't getting enough sleep, you have to go to a physician. If a person doesn't get enough sleep, he or she is headed for bad health. Sleep is healing.

Sleep is so important, deprivation can cause more restless sleep. You clearly have something bothering you when you fal asleep. Also is it possible your sleeping conditions aren't the greatest? Cat is bothering you because you are troubled in your sleep. I wish you the best. Find out what is bothering you?
