My concrete driveway that was poured 7/29 not only looks horrible but did not pass the final inspection! The inspector even said how horrible it was and I should have it torn out and start over! The contractor seems to think it is fine and like someone else said blames it on the cement provider. I am just wondering what my options are... can I refuse final payment? He says he will grind the 'rough spots' and put some type of self-leveling epoxy on it they use on pool decks; I hesitate to let him do any more but I am wondering if he is willing to do something if I have to go along with it and give him a chance to make it right? I do have some other contractors coming today to look at my mess but... Any advice one can give would be appreciated as this is the first time I am dealing with something like this! And worse yet, it is an out of town property ( my grandmother's) that I came to just for this and he has been putting me off for a month now(rain didn't help) and I HAVE to get home!:(

What were the cause of the failed inspection? Looks has nothing to do with it.

I would not accept a half a** repair for a new concrete walk. Is there anything in writing? Is your contractor licenced?

If you are correct and it did not pass the inspection you have no worry, it must come out. You are not obligated to try or accept any bad attempts at fixing a faulty job. Think about it, if this guy can't pour concrete correctly what would make you think he is better at repairing concrete.

And as ballengerb1 mentioned on a previous post, even if it is a bad mix from the concrete supplier, it is normally the contractors problem to iron out financially with the supplier unless the owner made the order himself and didn't go through the contractor.
