Hello All,

I am also in a situation which many have already discussed about in this forum. I have also transitioned from OPT to H1 in 2005. But since my status started in October, I had the advantage of filing NR form and taking advantage of the US-India tax treaty.

However I had got the 1099-INT form from my bank and since there is nowhere in 1040NREZ that you can list your taxable interest, I am forced to file 1040NR... along with 8843.

After the tax calculation in 1040NR on line 41, there is something about Alternative minimum tax. I couldn't see any discussion about this anywhere in the forum and I think they ask us to attach form 6251 for this...
Could anyone please give me some advice regarding this... I am quite confused.

Most likely ignore. If you got only wages and taxable interests, you don't have to worry about it.

Vaya is probably correct, except that I believe that the interest is NOT taxable (at least the interest earned while you were on F-1 visa status).

AMT can kick in if your salary is high enough. Unless your salary exceeded $150K, don't worry about it.
