I take adderal XR 30mg 1 qd and Effexor XR 150mg 1 qd.
I was seeing a family dr who only required me to actually come into the office once or twice a year for med refills but now that he is retired I'm seeing a different provider. She insists that I come in every 3 months for my refill for the adderal.

I send a 3 month supply to my mail order RX insur company. But can't she just allow me to staop by and pick up a paper rx? I think they just want me to come in for the OV charge and so they can get another copay.

Does anyone know what the requirements are?

Thanks, Yvette

The Doctor must comply with your State's laws but also can require that you come in as often as she wants - it's her office and her rules.

Unfortunately.

What State are you in?

Any Pharmacist can also tell you.

Florida... That's good to know that a pharmacist can tell me. I didn't even think about that.
Thanks:)

Right off the top of his/her head - he will know both Federal Law (which I don't think applies) and State Law -

If you can't get an answer I could pull out the books again.

Sorry to put you off and don't mean to but I'm just getting ready to sign off -

Florida is tough about having patients NOT come in to the doctor's office in person and getting medications such as yours. Too much fakery going on down there and they have pretty strict control over what a doctor writes and how often he sees the patient. Even though I went to the same neurologist for 11 years and got the same rx's I had to go in person and pay another doctor visit just to get a rx for a 3 month supply of meds. He did not want to lose his license and also he needed to physically see me to be sure I was doing okay (yes, even after 11 years). The fact that I was taking a certain rx he even had me take liver tests every 6 months to be sure that my liver functions were okay and not destroyed by the medicine I was taking. Consider the whole thing as a safeguard - not only for your health, but for your doctor's license as well as the DEA regularly audits doctors and their prescriptions they write. This way they are trying to avoid the patients who have several doctors who write the same rx's and the patient can then "sell" the excess drugs for money. All sorts of scenerios here...

I have to agree with TD here... Many states are now mandating a 3 or 6 month visit to the doctor for refills... why you ask? Because too many teens get into their parents medicine cabinets... too many people are addicted to prescription meds, etc.

Believe it or not, Adderal is sold on the street, and physicians as well as pharmacists must keep account of how many pills their patient takes monthly. This is best done by a schedule such as a visit every 3/6 months.
