I just installed an OTR convection microwave by running a 12 gauge wire down to a GFCI 20A circuit. I thought that the circuit was just rarely used outlets but I found out that it is the same circuit as the refrigerator. Is it better to run a brand new dedicated circuit to the circuit breaker box in this situation?

The microwave is not used for long periods but once we get used to the convection function, convection cooking may have longer run times.

The microwave is 950 Watts and the convection portion is 1500 watts.

Thanks for any advice!

They had to reccommed a 20 amp circuit or more because (950+1500)/120 = 20.41 Amps. So every time your fridge turns on, the breaker will trip.

A dediated circuit is therfore recommended.
