Hi
A couple of questions...

I've got old 8mm tapes I need to download/convert then burn to dvd. I've got an old 8mm camcorder and have gotten a newer digital handycam the DCR-TRV510. I read that it's easier to convert using the digital camcorder using firewire. However, I don't have firewire in my nearly year-old Dell. My questions are what are my options?

-I bought a firewire>USB connecting cable for the TRV510 but the computer didn't recognize the device. Is this because I don't have firewire/firewire card or did I not connect correctly.
-Should I install a firewire card, get a real firewire cable and just do the video capture that way? Is this the preferred method over...
-buying capturing software like Pinnacle Moviebox and capture using either camera.

Any opinions welcome!
Michael

If you're going to do this with some regularity, Firewire is a great standard. Installing a Firewire card would be the option I would take.
