I have PINK formica cabinets and I hate them. How hard is it to paint them? What kind of prep, paint do I need? Do they have to be sprayed?
Anyone ever try the paint that they have for plastic PVC furniture?

Yes, you can buy formica (melmine) paint. (at least here in Canada at Home Hardware) You need to rough up the surface with sandpaper. Roller works pretty good.

Formica and PVC are very different plastics.

Thank you so much, there may be hope for my kitchen after all!

There is a special primer that you must buy first. This primer adhers to the cabinets with no special work except for de-greaser cleaning first. WE JUST DID THIS and our cabinets look beautiful! We bought the primer at our local Lowe's. It is very expensive but worth it. Provide an area where the doors can cure for about 2 weeks before rehanging. It takes that long for the primer to fully adhere and will minimize scratching when re-attaching to the cabinets. This was one of my easiest painting projects and one that I had originally thought would be way more difficult. GOOD LUCK!

WWP is correct. I can't give him a positive rating until I spread some more around. The primer is important and if you want an extra smooth finish try adding Floetrol to the paint on the finish coat. Floetrol Paint Additive (http://www.flood.com/Flood/CustomerSupport/FAQ/DIY/Floetrol+FAQ.htm)
