My neighbors have a 6 or 7 year old golden retriever, he's a very nice dog and like a big teddy bear who drools A LOT and he comes to our house quite a bit. I never used to mind it because my dog gets along well with him. But lately when I've been going out to play catch with Rex as soon as I throw his toy the neighbor dog comes over and takes it. Now I wouldn't mind this, I'd love to throw it for both of them, but the problem is that he will take it back to his house and chew it up. I got really mad because a couple days ago I was playing with Rex with his AKC toy squirrel and the neighbor dog came and took it, fortunately I managed to get it back a few minutes later. The biggest problem is that he just doesn't drop it he's a big dog and really strong and it's hard to get it from him. One day I had to take a pill bottle out of his mouth and when I managed to get it out he latched onto my hand I was surprised cause he never bit anyone, to my knowledge. Its pretty hard because I'll be trying to pull it from his mouth and Rex seeing that I'm annoyed will start barking at the neighbor dog to drop his toy but nothing seems to work, please Help! I can't play with Rex outside of this keeps happening.

Have you told the dogs owner about this? It's their job to keep a watch over him and train him properly.

Yes I have and they get mad at him but he just keeps coming back he'll even come right up the steps and eat the dog food.

Is he running loose, or in a back yard? How is he getting to your house and eating your dogs food? If he is being allowed to run loose then you should call the local pound and report that, maybe that will make the owners more responsible for their pet.

He runs loose because where I live most dogs do run loose we are really fsr from the road so he isn't in any danger. I could never call the pound on our neighbours we live in our own little community and were pretty close. Like I said he's normally a wonderful dog I just need to know what I can do to keep him off out property. They get mad at him when he comes to our house and tell us to send him home but he'll just lay down. I need to know what I can do to make him stay in his own yard.

I don't have anything further for you, I've given you the only advice I can think of.
Hold on, maybe someone else will think of a better solution.
Good luck.

Alty's right
The owner has to be made aware of the dogs actions amd then has to take responsibility for them. It sounds to me like he isn't getting the attention he requires at home and that's why he comes to your house.

Well, that's his owners job, not yours.
Good luck.

Exactly... I'm sure they would expect you to keep Rex under control if he started doing the same to them.

Realistically, if the dog is running loose there's not much you can do about the situation. You might want to try teaching the golden to "give", so that you can play fetch with both. The only other thing that I can think of is, when he comes over, tie him up somewhere in your yard while you play with Rex, and then untie him when you are done. The only other thing is talk to your neighbor about controlling their dog.
