hi,
I'm 17 and live in the state of CA. my ex is 18. We decided that it would be best to wait until I'm 18 to go out again. I heard that if your 17 1/2 it is legal to date an 18 year old. And when I mean go out I mean not just dating. A full on relationship. Sexual and all. I need to know if it is against the law or not =[ !

My research indicates the legal age for consentual sex in California is 18.

The law is: From California statutes:

Quote: Section 261.5. (a) Unlawful sexual intercourse is an act of sexual intercourse accomplished with a person who is not the spouse of the perpetrator, if the person is a minor. For the purposes of this section, a "minor" is a person under the age of 18 years and an "adult" is a person who is at least 18 years of age.
(b) Any person who engages in an act of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor who is not more than three years older or three years younger than the perpetrator, is guilty of a misdemeanor."

Your boyfriend could go to jail for year for having sex with a minor.

So the sex is illegal till you are 18. But you will break up with your boyfriend because you can't have sex yet?? Guess it was not a very serious relationship
