I heard physical exercise is the best way to relieve depression, I've been going through a bit of down time since my breakup and even though I am healing I still feel errible, just want to know what's the best exercise that would help,or if anyone have other healthy minded suhggestions? I also ask this because lately I don't feel attractive anymore, dating is sort of nonexistant,so I might as well pruce up myself image and not be so down on myself and so deperssed. Thanks everyone

Any exercise is good because it is doing something for yourself, getting you out of the house, and releasing endorphins around your body giving you that feel good factor. As you said you are healing, and it will take time, so keep doing what you are doing and you will get through, AND feel good about yourself again. You are taking positive steps which shows you have good self esteem even though may FEEL rotten your actions are telling me you care about yourself so well done to you! You are not sitting about doing nothing and getting worse you are getting better. Keep going x

I have battled mild depression all my life. I can definitely feel the difference when I stop doing daily exercise. For me, it has to be something that makes me sweat. Walking doesn't work that well anymore. I took up Irish Step Dancing. It is a great workout and you meet other folks with similar interests. Perhaps a dance, exercise or running group will give you the jumpstart you need. I find if I do solitary activity, it is too easy to skip, but if people are expecting you - you show up.

Exercise is good, the more the better, but guess what else helps relieve stress almost as good as exercise?

LAUGHING!

Yes, it is true.

There are chemicals released by the brain, to combat stress, called beta endorphins.

There are only two ways for an individual to increase the bodies natural production of these chemicals.

Exercise, and laughing.

Isn't that great news, you can actually reduce stress and be healthier just by laughing.

So somewhere fun, enjoy yourself, rent a good comedy, go to a comedy club, or find that crazy friend that seems able to always make you laugh and spend some time with them.

Laughing is excellent! Progunner is correct. :)

The best exercise that doesn't cost a thing is speedwalking... a person can do it anytime, do it with friend, or friends, and it really makes the exerciser feel good after a nice workout.

Clean out all the negative stuff in your life like soap operas-and the like, romance novels, and friends who complain, whatever you decide to eliminate.
