I need to replace the rear sub-frame mounts on my 91 sable. Ford says to drill holes in the floor to access the nuts. Is there a way to access through the wheel well?

Good insight. Access to water pumps, alternators, and much more is accomplished by removing the fender liners on Sables and Tauruses, particularly those with the Duratec engine. Shouldn't take long to see if your hunch is right.

Check the online archives of the Taurus Car Club of America (TCCA).

Nope. You have to pull back the carpet and cut holes in the metal floor pan. It's really not hard. I've done it many times. Once you drill the holes, use a tin snips to cut out the hole. Then you can reach the retaining nuts and the staked holders. The nut assembly is mounted between the inner and outer floor pan.
