[F]When I found my pool pump not working and no power, I checked the breaker. It had been tripped so I turned it on. There was a loud pop and then a little smoke came out of the end of the motor. Now - nothing. Aside from 5 days of rain, I can't explain what might have caused the problem. Is the motor fixable? Worth fixing?

Your motor is toast. Its best to shut them off during a long rain or lightning storms. Your motor will need to be replaced and the shaft seal. A used motor with new bearings should cost about 75$ that's what I charge. I'm in central Florida.. need more help just call.. look up my ad.. google pool pump repair guy 32750.. good luck.. jay
And no rewinding a pool pump motor, on average a small rewind cost is 300$

Take the motor off and check the impeller because sometime they can bind up and cause the same problem. Fyi when replacing the motor always put on what you took off. Good luck and when installing a new seal put a dab of silicone on the metal part and a dab of magic lube of the rubber but never put any on the 2 surfaces that will be touching each other
