I have posted this question elsewhere as well--

I am looking to start a web-based business that involves building a community. I am trying to come up to speed on all the technologies (content management systems, software as a service, Web 2.0, etc.) so I can be involved in making technology choices, working with a web design/development company.

Where can I get a reasonably good view of the current state of the web, and a discussion of these new terms? I am looking for an downloadable document, or a buy that I can buy.

Thanks all!

You might want to start with this Wikipedia entry (http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_2.0). Coverage on the 2008 Web 2.0 expo here (http://en.oreilly.com/webexsf2008/public/content/home). Be sure to check out the various links, and you might want to consider attending in 2009. Here's a good Web 2.0 strategy guide (http://www.amazon.com/Web-2-0-strategies-successful-implementations/dp/0596529961/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1216516629&sr=1-1).

Thank you vingogly for the very useful links! I bought and read the strategy guide. It had good discussions on flickr, Google and some of the economic underpinnings of web 2.0.

Appreciate your help.
