Hi,

My spouse has been on a H1 B for the past 5 years. We are both from India.

I was on a H4 visa till Sept of 2003 and moved to an F1 at the end of the year. We filed a joint return that year. We did the same for 2004 although I did have a W-2 from the School. At the end of July 2005, I joined my employer on an OPT and then converted to an H1-B from Oct 2005. I worked as a TA at School till June 05 and got a W-2 from school for 2005. I also got a 1042-S from the university (excess scholarships) and a W-2 from my employer. My employer did not collect Social security and medical till Oct 2005.

We have been using itemized deductions for the past couple of years and filing married jointly as Resident Aliens. This is the first time I have got a 1042-S and I don't know what to do with it. It shows a Gross income and a Net income box as well as a taxes withheld column. Do I just treat it as another W-2? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Treat it as a W-2. The IRS does not really care as long as the income is reported and the taxes are paid.
