How do I get permission outside the US for work purposes. I've been on federal probation for 15 months out of a 5 year period. I have a great work offer, and have to leave by August 20, 2008. Please help.

Hello antonelli:

You'll need permision from your PO. I wouldn't hold my breath.

My PO doesn't have the authority to grant me permission. That's the problem I have permission to travel anywhere within US territories.

Of course your PO either has the authority or has the paper work to file to get it approved or rejected. Ask him to show you the mannual with the rules to request this permission to travel outside.

Also there is a large difference between travel, and moving and living outside the US.
Also with a felony you will have trouble getting visas to travel into some countries ( not the passport but the visa)

I'd re-read the info from your PO - there is a misunderstanding here.

Hello again, a:

EVEN if you get permission, which I doubt, you'll need visa's to enter a foreign country. MANY of our western allies DON'T let felons in - Canada for instance.

You DO understand WHY they don't want you to leave the US, don't you?? There ARE countries out there that will refuse to extradite you back should the parole commission decide they want you. The parole commission wants things easy for THEM. They're not interested in making parole easy for YOU.

So, that's why they're not going to let you go.

I seriously doubt you will get permission whether you have been on probation for 2 years or 4 years to work and live outside the country.
