Can a nonpermanent resident alien have a social security number

Depends on categories...

Anyone with employment visas can obtain Social Security number, driver's license.

For those with student visas, researchers, or exchange program, cannot obtain Social Security number but they are eligible to obtain driver's license.

For those with tourist visas.. none.
