Here I am in northern New York married almost 28 years now facing a divorce (which is OK to me) . But what I am worried about is my home . The home was bought in 1996 by a family member (that family member has passed away) it is deeded to another family member and we have lived in the house since 1996 and have paid nothing to live here other than the TAXES at times (some have been paid by the person the house is deeded to ) . Now that things aren't going so well here the guy I am married to thinks he is entitled to money wants me to buy his half of the house . Remember this house isn't ours the deed is in someone else's name . Can he make me pay him for the half of house he thinks he owns when we get divorced ? :confused:

Tell him you would be happy to buy out his share of ownership in the house, then give him a check for $0.00. When he asks about that, tell him neither of you own the home, so your shares are zero.

Now the question is what will the real owner do? Is it your family member or his? If they will continue to let you live in the house, then you will be free to do so.
