Hello again, starruhlig!

I just moved your question that you had piggybacked on someone else's post in Introductions to this topic area so that it will get the most exposure to those who will be best at answering it. Introductions is for people to introduce themselves only, and we try not to ask any questions there.

Hopefully, this is the correct topic area, since I am assuming that you are talking about a child's teeth. If this isn't the correct topic area, then I would appreciate you correcting me so that someone can come along and move it to the correct topic area.

Thanks!

If you are talking about teeth, then according to what I have experienced, then no, they aren't permanent.

When I was in the 5th grade, I was riding my bicycle in the wintertime. In the street, I swerved to avoid a manhole cover that was sunk down somewhat. I hit a patch of ice and my mouth hit the pavement! Very bloody situation!

Our dentist ground my two, front teeth down to what appeared to me to be next to nothing. He then put stainless steel crowns on each of them. It wasn't until many years later that I was able to have crowns put on them that looked like real teeth. I'm not really sure why we had to wait for the crowns that looked like real teeth.

We do have a dentistry expert on this site who is quite good. Hopefully, Flossie will be along to address your question.

Thanks!

It depends on how old your son is. Stainless steel crowns are usually used on baby teeth, however, some dentists will use them on adult teeth (not the ideal situation). If the stainless steel crown is on a baby tooth, it will fall out when the tooth does.
