We just bought a house. The hot water heater was linking so we replaced it. First the shower does not get hot at all. Also, now the kit. And the bathroom sink does not get hot water unless we turn on the tub water and then it gets hot water in the bathroom sink and kit. Does anyone know why this is happening?

Thanks

Hello, just a few questions to try to figure out your problem.
1. what type of shower valves do you have?
2. do you know if you have a recirc pump on your hot water system?
3. if you run your hot water on the lav, how long does it take tell you get the hot water?
4. did you have any problems before replacing the water heater? Thanks--Zeke

1. do not know what type of valve I have it look like the org. from when the house was built in 71. I think it is moen

2. do not know if I have a recirc pump but do not think so

3. With out turning on the shower it does not get hot in the bathroom sink or the kit. Sink. If I turn on the shower then the bathroom sink gets hot right away and the kit. Sink take a few min. But the shower still does not get hot.

4. We never checked the shower, but the bathroom sink and the kit sink worked fine before replacing the water heater.

Who installed the water heater? Can you show us a picture of the heater and surrounding pipes.

Hello cyber. Its puzzling me that your not getting hot water to your kit. bath room fixtures, the water heater install looks good.
So if that's all that was worked on then everything else should be working fine unless there was an existing problem that was not caught before hand.
1. where is the tub in relation to the shower and the sinks?
You said that when you run the tub you get hot water instantly to the lav.
2. how far is the water heater from the bathroom and kitchen. Its possible that you may have to wait a minute or more to get hot water to your kit. Faucet, being that the volume of water in the tub valve is mutch greater than the lav, or kit. Faucet, therefore allowing the hot water to get there quicker.
3. run your lav, or kitchen faucet for a few minutes and see if its just taking more time to get hot water there. Check that and get back to us, good luck----Zeke

Clean your aerators and shower heads before you do anything else.

Hello Cyber,

From the pictures it looks like the plumber have done a great job I don't see any thing wrong, the only thing I don't like is the drain line from the T/P valve which is PVC, you need to do couple things.
1. Remove the aerators and shower heads as Milo says, I don't think if this will help you.
2. Call the person who replaced the heater for you.
3. Call the manufacturer who is American Water Heater Company there help disk number is 1-800-999-9515, Thanks and good Luck.

John
