Hi. My question has to do with my oldest step daughter. She will be 19 in August. She lives wiith her boyfriends family and has a part time job. The Mass. Probate has control of child support and my husband thinks we have to go to court to finally end support for her and let her become an adult. Does anyone know the protocol for ending child support for emancipation in Mass.
Thanks.

You need to go to family court where the order was obtained and tell them you want to file for stopping support because she is 19.

Child support for your state ends at 18. Yes. The court can make orders for support, maintenance, and education for children between 18 and 21, if they live with their parent and are mainly dependent on that parent for their maintenance.
The court can also make these orders for 21 and 22 year olds if they live with one of their parents. They must also be mainly dependent on that parent for their maintenance and be in school or college.
Contact the agency your paying support to and if they don't respond then contasct the courts and get a hearing.
Good luck
