We buy most of our crude oil and petroleum from Canada. Saudi Arabia is second on the list, and, in the case of petroleum, a very distant second. Why are we not begging and negotiating with the Canadians about the price of their oil? Why is all the attention focused on the Middle East?

I heard that most Canadian oil is cruder or inferior and needs more refining or something like that. I heard it on the news a couple weeks ago when they said that a bill was turned down to get more Canadian oil. I think it was the liberals that turned it down if I remember right.

Because it is the Saudi's that can most likely and quickly increase production.

It doesn't matter where we get it from we are paying world market prices. The source really does not matter. Oil is as they say "fungible" . This is why it is so maddening that we have not added domestic production to the mix. The supply would increase and that alone would cause a price reduction. Even the threat of America drilling ,after President Bush announced a lifting of the executive order prohibitting exploration on the continental shelf ,helped reduce the price recently .

Canada has the 2nd largest reserves after Saudi Arabia. But most of it now comes from shale oil. Under NAFTA, there's a limit they can charge us and they can't refuse to sell to us.

All we get on the news here, is the price of a barrel of oil has risen, due to the world market.
In fact if it wasn't for our government taxes on fuel, which is approximately 3/4 of the price at the pumps, most of the haulage firms over here would still be in business.

Just this week the price has come down a bit, mainly due to protests and sheer outrage.
There have been queues at the petrol stations, people grabbing what they can before it goes up again, consequently leaving the pumps dry, because they are totally filling up,they are leaving the 5 or 6 quid people nothing.
The whole situation is ridiculous.
