I need to remove all the gunk buildup, and was going to use a hose as well as a 50' snake. I am pretty handy, but if you could offer any advice or tips I am all ears. Other info 3 year old house, pvc piping, 1 1/2" inch pipes to the roof and a typical cleanout to the septic tank.

Go on the roof and drop your snake down to the base of the stack and put out about 25 feet more. If your home is two stories then you'll need more then 50 feet of snake. Without a complaint I can't get more specific. Why do you feel it's necessary to snake out your vent? Regards, Tom

Thank you for the response. Here is what I have done so far. In the bathroom the sink has been draining slowly, and the toilet sometimes gurgles when flushing. For many reasons I am confident that the toilet is not clogged. I pulled all the piping off from underneath the sink and gross, think with sludge all the way up into the wall, and I can see it up in there too. I cleaned the removed pipes and the sink drain thoroughly, and put back together, with pretty good improvement, no gurgles in the toilet either. My reason for wanting to snake is the clear all that gunk that I cannot get too from under the sink. Also, everything "downstream" is fine (and was before as well)

Did you snake out the sinks drain line in the wall? If not that line runs horizontally Less then 5' over to the lavatory roof vent. This is the vent that services the entire bathroom group and the one you should snake next. Good luck, Tom
