Someone I know, a young man, saids several of his toe nails are dark like they have been bruised. One of his toe nails came completely off possibly because of dead blood (excuse for lack of a better word). When it grew back, it became bruised again. He only plays basketball once a week, the only cause he could think of that could cause the injuries.

Is that normal for toe nails (abt 5) at any given time is bruised?

Any suggestions or tips will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Could be from vitamin or mineral deficiencies he should get it checked by the doctor if it is happening on a regular basis

Possibly what it sounds like is the "young man" might have contracted toenail fungus (http://www.home-remedies-for-you.com/blog/toenail-fungus-what-to-look-for.html). If that is what it actually is a trip to his family doctor or podiatrist can diagnose the condition accurately and begin immediate medical treatment.
