I have a 5 year old side-by-side Jenn-Air refrigerator with the water/ice dispenser on the freezer door. In the last few weeks, the water dispenser pad was starting to stick just a few times. Now it gets stuck "on" every time I dispense water. I can shove my finget behind the rubber pad and pull it out to stop the flow of water, but without me doing that it does not shut off on its own. I called a repair shop who told me it would probably cost $150-$275 to fix! I can't really afford that right now and am hoping to get some good advice on a possible way to fix it myself...

Hello tatifl
I fear I have bad news for you : I may be wrong, but normally this problem is caused by either dirt or calcium deposits blocking the dispenser valve from closing completely. It is caused from within the water supply system. And the only way to repair is replacing the tap system. The leaking will get worse and worse.
Do you have an in-line filter in the waterline? At least that would block dirt from entering the system. Calcium build-up is caused by the hardness of the water. You can not really change that.
If you do not have the funds, than simply close the tap of the water supply to the fridge and use tap water from now. You can always add an ice cube from the freezer compartment. Not as nice, but it saves you $150-$275 now, till you can afford that again !
