I just bought a 1992 civic and it won't stay running. In fact it rarely starts. When it does start it runs for only a few minutes or less. I replaced main relay and could always hear the fuel pump. I think it is electrical since I cannot see spark at plugs. I have 5 volts at the map sensor and the check engine light never has stayed on. Could the igniter cause intermittent starts? Or something else.

Yes, replacing the ignitor and coil could be at the heart of your problems. I would also replace the distributor cap and rotor, while you have the distributor open.

Replaced the ignitor today with one from the wreckers out of an older civic. Seems to be working fine now. Got another for backup too. Engine light came on while on highway but was out after shutting car off and didn't come on again. How do you check the code for this or does it not store it unless it stays on for good? I jumperd a blue small connector to the right of the glove box and engine light just stayed on and didn't blink. Is that the right connector for this? It is next to another blue one with more pins than two and they are both just hanging there. Car was $1000 for a beater for work so if it lasts a year I will be happy.
