MTD Lawn Machine "600" series. Transmatic lawn tractor.

If the riding mower sits for more than a day, while smoke comes out and will stutter. If you remove the plug when it has sat for a while, gas will drain from the plug hole, and this can even stop the "engine" from turning over.

If you go on like this for a couple weeks, gas is mixed with the oil, and this must be drained and refilled. Needless to say I have gotten very good and efficient at this :-)

From all of reading (bare with me, I'm a network tech, engines are very foreign to me) it seems like it is the float "switch" or something getting stuck with the float bowl.

Now, trying to be self sufficient, I have now driven myself crazy trying to figure out how to check or remove this bowl on this carb. I am able to remove the carb from the mower most of the way except for the little wire and spring adjusters, but do not see how to remove the bowl. There is a wire harness at the bottom of what I believe is the bowl off the carb. There is no screw screw on the bottom. The 2 wires coming from it go to a ground and to a larger wire harness elsewhere.

I'm stuck.

Thanks for any responses.

That problem sounds like a stuck float to me. The float is supposed to open and close as needed, and can sometimes be stuck at either. You should probably replace the float valve and mabe check the diaphram also.

The spring and the wire ought to be easy. The wire is a friction clip.

The spring, just ease it out of the hole with a pair of needle nose pliers.

The linkange: Move the carb once loose. Don't move the linkage.

Thanks for the responses and I do agree.
I'll attach a picture if that will help clarify. I just do not know how to "replace the float valve" because all of the guides and pics on the web show the float without the wire harness beneath the bowl.
Or how do I even verify if that is indeed the problem?

Are you referring to removing the spark plug and fuel coming out?
