My 1998 Honda CR-V check engine light is on. Honda dealer tells me the catalytic converter needs to be replaced. If I replace this myself will the check engine light go off or will something have to be reset? Also, will I need a genuine Honda part or can I purchase one off the internet that will do the job? Seems like someone told me I would have to purchase a genuine Honda part. Thanks..

Usually trouble codes are stored in the computer and need to be reset in the computer.

There may be a non-factory replacement for your CR-V, but you need to check.
