I have an old 4 ton Rheem. It seems to be working just so so. I bought this home a little over a year ago, and never check it before. I have been checking high / low pressures for years on previous rentals and homes like carrier and trane.

When I hook my manifold hoses on the high / low of the Rheem, I read nothing. It seems the schrader valve and my hoses aren't matching. The detent doesn't come close to touching anything. They thread on just fine. No short term leak when attaching / detaching the hoses.

When I poke a WD40 spray extender tube into the schrader, it's clear that my faithful hoses are not going to engage with anything. What am I mising here? Does this Rheem need some sort of adapter? A Special hose for my manifold? What am I doing wrong..

Arrrrgh

Thanks in advance

Kim

Suggest that you check insure that your manifold hoses haven't been turned around and you are using the wrong end. It's the kind of thing I would do.

Check the brass depressor in the center of the gaskets on your hoses. They may have sunk in and not depressing the valve core(you can work them back out if its sunk in to the gasket). If they screw on to the service port than the hoses should work but the manifold set may not check to see if its 410A or R22.

WOW Thanks for the help... My hoses ARE worn... and I didn't know the detents & gaskets are replaceable/adjustable.

I did check the tag before my 1st writing that it was in fact R22... but failed to mention it... very important

Here's what I found out on further inspection. This particular Rheem HAS A SERVICE VALVE! So I was somewhat right, no core in the schrader. Just hook hoses on like normal. Back the sealant protective cap off the 2" looking hex between the schrader, loosen the water facet looking valve... and ta-da... pressure. WOW Service valves are the best thing since sliced bread! Ummmm as long as you know they're there... hehehehe No more Pssssst on connect/disconnect... Wish they ALL had them...

Thanks again all... Ahhhhhhhh nice n cool again...
