Hi I'm 19 and have been with my boyfriend for coming onto two years...
Every month I worry about being pregnant every single month.
I am on the contraceptive injectiong and we have never been unsafe, I know the contraceptive injection is the most effective form of contraception but it doesn't stop me from worrying.
I know the symptoms of the injection can cause nausia and irregular periods.
But reasons as to why I'm worried I am having slight cramps and feeling sick with a sore back one of my breasts has become quite tender and I have been visiting the toilet more often but to my admition that is only when I'm worrying about being pregnant.
The only reason why I'm so paranoid is because of the pms/pregnancy symptoms being there for about 4 days now I am aware that my symptoms are the same as pms but they also relate to pregnancy so I am quite warey I'm pretty sure I'm not pregnant as it is unlikely but any help would be appreciated so much. Also can anyone tell me any tips of stopping being so paranoid because it is ruling my life for a few days or a week of the month not fun.
Thanks

*Also my last period started around three weeks ago

It is good that you have a healthy fear of becoming pregnant when you are not yet ready to be a parent.

To be extra cautious are you using 2 forms of birth control? I.E. condom.

You are correct in that premenstrual symptoms and early pregnancy symptoms are very much alike.

You also are smart enough to know that there is no form of birth control that is 100% effective.

Hi thanks for being understanding, At the moment we are not using two forms of BC but I am seriously thinking about it. The only thing is I know ill still worry about being pregnant even with two! You hear way to many stories about no matter what you do or even using two forms people get pregnant, I just wish I didn't get so paranoid. Im getting fed up of waiting for my period to start when I have symptoms then actually being disapointed as another day passes and I have not started it is also to early to do a hpt at the moment so I'm just trying to figure out what's going on an how to stop being paranoid for now because I know that will delay me further.. I hate being female some times.

I can relate to your concerns. At least you do get a period on the shot. Many women don't get one at all. That can be VERY frustrating.

Now, if you are that paranoid about getting pregnant, have you considered not having sex? Is that an option for you?

As you know, abstinence is the only form of birth control that is 100% effective, and there are other ways to please each other without having to have intercourse.

Yes 90% of the time we do not actually have intercourse we do other things which we find can be more fun so we don't find not having sex a problem its just the moment takes you at times unfortunately hopefully the paranoia will come to an end pretty soon as he is going to university which is an hour or two away so we won't see each other as mcuh maybe a weekend a month or something so it is a lot less likely then

It is really refreshing to hear a 19 year say, she uses birth control, she worries about pregnancy, she's not ready to be a parent.

A good dose of paranoia isn't a bad thing if it makes you be more careful.

J9 is right, two or three forms of birth control is best, but it still isn't a 100% guarantee. The chance is there, only abstinence is 100%. But at least you are taking precautions, and not relying on the "pull out" method.

Thanks, I needed this, after talking to 14 and 16 year olds all day that are "trying" to get pregnant, this is a refreshing change. :)

Honest truth is there is no answer for you.

You are worried about being pregnant while having sex. OK.

If birth control was all that was needed to avoid pregnancy I wouldn't have a son today, conceived while using birth control with a 2-5% failure rate and tracking her ovulation cycle religiously.

Honest truth is you are going to feel this way as long as you aren't ready to be a mother and are having sex.
