I have googled my fingers raw trying to find the name of a movie I saw on television in the mid-70s. It probably is stupid and cheesy, but I was seven or eight when I saw it, and it scared me silly.
A guy is murdered, but the police think his death is an accident. His ghost, which only the audience can see, comes back and begins to wander the halls of the hospital where his body was taken. Doctors at the hospital decide that he is a subject for some new transplant techniques, not just heart and lungs, but hands, feet eyeballs, and such. As parts are removed from him and attached to recipients, the ghost loses parts, so now ghost wandering halls has empty black sockets in face, and no hands. Very creepy to a kid.
Then the people who received parts from the guy begin to have disturbing dreams, and sort of seizures where they hallucinate of act out parts of a vicious attack, depending on what part they got from the guy-- i.e. patient who got eyes "sees" attack, patient who got hands tries to fend off attacker, and soforth. Some intern (or some sort of underling) puts 2 and 2 together, but has trouble convincing police and hospital superiors. Intern investigates or something, and uses information gathered to try to improve the "memories" of the transplant recipients, and finally figures out that donor was murdered, and who did it, and exposes crime to police, who arrest murderer.
In closing scene, ghost watches murderer removed in handcuffs, then fades away.
Because this movie freaked me out in a big way when I was a kid, I kind of want to see it again, just to see if it was really any good, or just scared me because I was so young.
I got the impression that it was a made-for-tv movie, but I don't really know. It was made in, I'd guess, 1977 at the latest, and was in color. Going by my vague memories of fashions and hairstyles, the earliest it could have been made is about 1968, and is probably closer to 1973.
Anyone have any idea what this was, or maybe where I could search further? I've IMDb'd "ghost," "hospital," "transplant," "murder," and such ad infinitum.
