Hi,

I was in F1 status upto: sep 31st, 2005. My OPT( Optional Practical Training) started in Oct 2005. Since Oct 2005 I have been working as a contractor.

So , Can anyone please tell me what tax form I need to file
1040 (or) 1040NR ?

Waiting for the reply,
Santosh.

Santosh:

You will need to file Form 1040NR with a Schedule C. While you are on F-1 visa status, you are NOT liable for self-employment taxes, so Schedule SE is NOT needed.

Hi,

Thanks , that helps a lot.
Can I just file 1040NR-EZ , would this alone work ( I used a tax tool, it generated me just this) ?

Santosh.

No. You cannot document Form 1099-MISC income using Form 1040NR-EZ.

You need Form 1040NR with a Schedule C.

Hi,

I worked in Florida for 3 months, Florida doesn't have state tax right,
So do I need to file state tax for Florida ?

Please let me know,
Santosh!

You cannot file a state tax in Seven states (Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming).

B9Modi is correct; Florida is one of seven states with no state INCOME tax. There are other taxes to compensate, however.
