I have been given a Dell Cpi D266 and it only has a floppy drive... I'm wanting to put in a cd rom... does anyone know what it's compatible with? It seems like it should be compatible with any CPi, or is that wrong? Please help... thanks!

Dell's Parts Removal and Replacement Guide (http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/pmojav/54725.pdf) indicates a modular bay for floppy/CD-Rom/battery. Whether there is an option for concurrent floppy/CD-Rom isn't clear. Contact Dell or a 3rd party source for a compatible module, or dig through the technical documentation on Dell's site. Availability and cost likely may give you pause, have you considered a USB or PC Card connected external CD drive?

Unlike PCs, laptops are pretty hardware-locked, at least internally. If CD is needed on this laptop, I'd go with Scleros suggestion and buy an external one... virtually plug and play solution.
If internal is your only option, then you'll need to order the exact model designed for that unit directly from Dell or an authorized dealer.

What's the Service Tag # on your laptop?
