I posted a while ago about cleaning ponds that led to installing a pump, adding something to the water to dissolve the algae and more plants. Although there's been an improvement, only half the pond is staying noticeably cleaner. Should I be moving the pump into the middle of the pond (where there's a rockery that kind of blocks that area) or get a stronger pump?

I have heard that immersing a bale of straw in a pond will keep down the algae or some people use old Christmas trees (have to be sure they are not sprayed with something) Weight them down so they sink.The nitrogen in the water that causes excess algae growth will be tied up trying to break these down. Or you need a larger pump that pumps more gallons per hour.

I might try a larger pump at some stage ~ I'm not sure the pond is big enough to consider a bale of hay... thanks though wildandblue, appreciate the ideas.

Well you could just stuff a few handfulls in an old pair of pantyhose or something like that. Strawy grass stems from weeding the garden work just as well

There's an odd recess at one end of the pond where a lot of algae collects, so it might be an idea to put something there I suppose...
