I have 2 large water oak trees on my property that is on the edge of the right of way for the sidewalk construction. Trees are about 80-90 ft tall. They have dug within 2 ft of the tree trunk cutting some roots. They said they would have an arborist check the trees (why don't I believe that?). Are my trees in danger of stress and death? I am truly stressed!
Please help me asap! Thanks

Cutting roots on any tree will stress it. Will this kill the tree, onlt ime will tell. If the city was doing this work they are within their rights. If they already dug its mute but you could have raised hell and still can if the tree dies. They can cut the roots on their rightaway but they can not kill your property, the tree. You may end up with two 10" Maples but I'd raise hell if the trees die, make them do the removal while you are at it.
