Why would child support keep you from working?

You can go to the DMV and take a written test for a small fee (less than 30 dollars), then you can practice driving and parking with a friend, and then go take the road test for a fee (usually less than 50 dollars).

I think you're saying that your driver's license was suspended due to your not paying child support... is that right?

I'm not sure what state you're in; but I'd be willing to bet that it's pretty across the board that once you're all caught up on your child support payments, you can then begin the process to get your license reinstated...

I know it must be difficult to start on the wrong foot with the deck stacked against you; but keep in mind that it's just as difficult to live there permanently--in other words, there are PLENTY of people out there in the same boat as you... struggling to pay child support and make a new life while the EX appears to be living in the money... and there's not a whole lot you can do about it...

Here's what I would suggest though... have you tried talking to EX to see if she's willing to work with you? It could only help to have her on your side when it's time to go back to court for a downward modification of support... maybe she's even willing to forgive arrears in your case... If so, then you're that much closer to getting your license back...

If not, keep taking the bus and looking for better jobs... and keep your nose clean and your butt out of trouble... because I'd also be willing to bet that being on the 'outside' of jail dealing with child support debt and bus schedules is much better than being in jail anyday, right?

Yes, your child support should be set on what your current earning are, if that is not true you need to go back and make sure they are adjusted properly. And for a lot of jobs, the being in prison is going to effect things a lot more than a drivers license.

But normally once you have a payment plan in place, are paying all your current and start paying also on the amount you are behind, you should be able to get at least one that allows you to drive for or back and forth to work.

But coming out of Atlanta, a lot of people here don't own cars, or don't use them to go to work, My wife did not even have one when we meet, did not own a car, she used the mass transit to work, shopping and the such.
