I had Dial-up service up until this point and now I am hooking up DSL service. I have Windows xp. After I hook up to modem and the ethernet cable and all that, do I just click on Internet Explorer like I did before, or do I have to change settings on my PC? I thought some kind of window was supposed to come up when it reads that the modem is hooked up. Please help:confused:

It depends really.

Some ISPs will give you some software on a CD that you need to run. This will register your DSL modem with their systems and give you internet access.

It may be worth trying the Network Setup Wizard (Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Communications >> Network Setup Wizard).

Didn't you get any documentation from your ISP?

The modem should already be registered with the company, no paperwork came with it because it's the isp I work for that is setting me up with it. I guess I should ask them, I just wondered before I asked them and felt stupid asking. When you connect with DSL I understand that it is on the same phone line as your telephone... does that mean it still needs to dial a # to connect like DIal-up or do you just click on internet explorer and there you are?

You normally just have to open your internet browser or whatever. Phone the tech support - there's no need to feel stupid about it. That's what they are there for :) It'll be a bit more quick than posting her, waiting for a reply, posting again etc.

You do need to configure your network settings to detect the network the DSL is connecting you to. Your ISP should help you do that.
