View Full Version : Bad Celing Fan Remote

I have a Hampton Bay fan that came with the house I just purchased. The fan/light works - but not completely. The unit can only be controlled by the remote, but the fan only seems to go in one speed - if I press the high button the fan comes on (but I don't think it is spinning on a high setting). The Low & Medium buttons shut the fan off.

The light button turns on/off the light, but the dimmer part doesn't work.

I tried a new battery, but no effect. Does it sound like my remote is bad? Or am I having a code issue between the remote and the fan? I can't seem to find where to check the code on the fan itself.

Any advice would be gladly appreciated - it's supposed to be about 100 degrees tomorrow...

Thanks,
Tim

Press and hold the fan speed button for 10 seconds, come back and tell us how that changed the operation.

Try that, and the light and/or dim button.

It's probably a bad receiver. Does the LED light up when you push the non-working buttons?

Does the fan have pullchains?

Which fan speed buton should I hold down?

The light button works, but does not dim.

The LED on the remote does light up when the buttons are pressed - any button

Also, the fan does not have a pull chain

More info - holding down the HI button on the fan remote did not have any impact

I did find that holding down the light button eventually dims the light - didn't realize that was how it worked.

One other note - the low or medium button on the remote actually turns the fan off.

Sounds like a bad capacitor or receiver-- and the capacitors are in the receiver, so replace the receiver.
